Surviving courgette planted out

I sowed 4 courgette seeds. 3 sprouted, and while I was hardening them off, 2 succumbed to the windy conditions and broke off. The surviving plant has now been planted out. I may sow some more.

Welsh poppies

Welsh poppies are forming seed-heads.

Strawb ripening

Yesterday I noticed the first strawberry to begin ripening. This is almost a month earlier than last year, because April this year was the warmest on record, and the warm weather has continued into May.

Spuds earthed up

Yesterday I earthed up the spuds in the main bed.

Courgette casualty

I put the courgette pots out in the garden for the first time a couple of days ago. Unfortunately the wind (which has been a problem for several days) proved a bit too strong for one and it broke off. One of the others got a bit damaged as well.

Rain on the way?

April was the warmest on record, and we have had no appreciable rain for several weeks. The TV forecast suggests heavy downpours this evening. The online forecast is just for light showers, but let's hope we get something.

Foxes attack mini greenhouse

Today I noticed that the foxes have chewed holes in the plastic cover of the mini greenhouse. I have tried to protect it with plastic mesh.

Prims potted up

I potted up some of the primrose seedlings from the indoor sowing on 23 March. As there is no more space in the mini greenhouse I arranged this perspex thing.

Wind and fox cubs

The windy weather which we have had for the last three days continued today. What I feared might happen, did - the mini greenhouse blew over. Fortunately I had most of the seedlings out in the sun - only a few spare seedlings got destroyed. I have now placed the mini greenhouse in the garage and will keep the seedlings in it overnight.

This afternoon I heard foxes in the garden. When I went out I found an adult and about 5 fox cubs, who were playing with a dead pigeon. I chased the foxes away and disposed of the pigeon.

Mini greenhouse update

This pic shows the min greenhouse after I put back all the plants this evening (I had the plants out in the garden). It's been windy over the past couple of days and I'm a little worried that the mini greenhouse may blow over. Hope the half paving stone on the bottom shelf weights it down enough to keep it upright.

Foxes - the next generation

Spotted this fox cub in the garden today. I think I saw two cubs later on, but there was no sign of an adult fox. Forgot I can't flip the camera when taking video.
