Spud update

Spuds are doing really well, although some stems have snapped due to the windy conditions today. I have been watering them once a week with tomato feed.

Spuds eathed up

I put netting around the sides hoping the foxes won't jump over it.

Spuds batch 2 planted

I planted out the spuds I got from Dobies. Quality looks good. I bought 2kg which amounted to 25 spuds so I planted 4 rows of 3 in the greenhouse bed and 3 rows of 3 and 1 of 4 in the large bed.

Potato update

This is the batch I planted on 17 April - one plant seems to be dying.

Spuds planted

Rather later than normal, due to the cold weather which persisted up until a few days ago. I used Charlottes from the supermarket.

First spuds of season sown

I sowed some charlottes (which I bought from the supermarket and chitted for a couple of weeks) in the old strawberry bed.  I will sow some more in about a month to try to achieve a staggered crop.

Here's the first of the three rows that I planted.

First batch of spuds planted

I planted 6 pentlands, and 4 charlottes (which are those furthest from the camera in the first pic above).

Chitting Charlottes

I'm tempted to plant some charlottes in a bag again.

Potato bag updates

There is now some sprouting in the second replanted potato bag which contains 3 Charlottes and 1 Pentland. The first replanted bag, containing 4 Pentlands, is doing well as shown in the first pic above.

Note to self - will have to remember to feed these plants as I'm using the same compost that I used for the first plantings so presumably the nutrients will have been depleted.
