Chitting

Bought the seed potatoes today - Arran Pilot. I think the potato 3rd from the left on the top row is dead.

Seed potatoes sourced

I'm not confident that the latest batch of supermarket spuds will chit (they're probably this season's crop - also I don't know whether they're early spuds), so I've ordered some proper seed potatoes for planting at this time of year - apparently they don't need chitting.

Chitting failed - started again

The spuds I began chitting on 30 May haven't sprouted and are going green.

Not sure if it's because they didn't originate in the UK.

Bought a different variety, from the UK.

Chitting begun

Bought Arran Pilot again this year. Hope the crop is as good as 2017's. I'm a bit later in buying the seed potatoes this year, and they seem well advanced in the chitting process. May plant them earlier this year if the weather isn't too bad.

Chitting under way

I bought a bag of seed potatoes today (Pentland Javelin, same as last year). There were 24 spuds in the bag, I have started chitting 6.
