More green manure sown, plus spinach

I sowed green manure in the two remaining veg beds. I took more time in raking the seed in (after having dug the beds, raked, then trod it down as recommended on the packet). I also sowed a row of perennial spinach.

Sowed these yesterday. I ran out of elastic bands at the time of this photo but I've now put clingfilm on all of them.

I have been cutting off the flowers as they develop, and selecting some leaves each week for cooking.

There are about 5 small spinach seedlings growing from the sowing I did on 11 May - I probably should have sowed more seed.

The spinach plants I grew then planted out last autumn haven't done very well, in fact most of them died as a result of the heavy rain in December.

I have therefore sown some more. I dug over the ground, firmed it, made a shallow trench and dropped in the seed. I covered the seed with a layer of compost.

I'm waiting for the first proper leaves to develop on the spinach seedlings before I plant them out. I'll probably plant the onions out at the same time.

I put the Spinach and Spring Onion seedlings (sowed on 13 October) outside for a while today.

There is no sign of the spinach I sowed in the garden on 22 September, so I decided to sow some in a container. I also container-sowed some spring onion seeds. I put the containers in the porch.
