Pelargoniums cut back

Saw Monty Don doing this on last week's Gardeners' World.

Before
After
The leftmost plant looks a bit iffy - when I pruned it, some gooey stuff came out.

Pelargonium update

I decided to remove the flowers, as I don't want the plants peaking too soon - there's still a couple of months before I'll be planting them out.

Pelargonium update

I watered these a little more regularly than I did last year. A few flowers started to appear so I decided to cut them off (don't want the flowering to peak too soon).

Pelargonium cuttings completed

Didn't quite have enough pink cuttings, so slightly more red than pink in total.

Pelargonium cuttings started

I took 60 cuttings from red pelargoniums today. Hope to do the same with pink-flowering plants tomorrow.

Looking a bit droopy - don't remember that happening last year. There was a cold wind today - maybe that affected the cuttings.

Front garden update

Front garden looking very sparse - I didn't take enough pelargonium cuttings. I used some spare coleus plants in an attempt to fill the gaps.

Also some of the rudbeckia are very small - sow more and earlier next year - maybe in February - or maybe red achillea as well/instead

Lawn bed planted up

This year I bought some begonias and pelargoniums (sold as geraniums), as I couldn't get any phlox or asters to germinate. I also planted out rudbeckia, antirrhinum and cornflowers which I grew from seed.
