Tomatoes planted out
I've waited until now as May has been very wet and cold so far. The weather is warmer today and the forecast is that the improvement will continue over the next few days.

Tomatoes planted out
The tomato plants look a bit iffy this year - they seemed to grow very quickly and I think they outgrew their pots. I hope they'll improve now they're out in the garden. I dug deep holes with a spade, put in some horse manure compost, then put the plants in the holes and added more HMC.

Tomatoes ripening
Some of the Gardeners Delight and Moneymaker toms are beginning to ripen.
I have pulled out 4 plants which appeared to be showing signs of tomato blight. I think all the plants I pulled out were Marmande, so maybe I won't bother with those next year.

Tomatoes update
The results of the first sowing of tomatoes were rather disappointing - only 6 of the 18 seeds germinated. I therefore sowed a few more a couple of weeks ago, which can be seen as the smaller seedlings above. Today I potted up the plants from the first sowing.

First sowing of the season
Yesterday was my traditional first seed-sowing day of the year, so I sowed some tomatoes (using the same packets of seed as for the last 3 years or so, so varieties are Marmande, Gardener's Delight and Moneymaker).
I also sowed the seed I saved last year from the white polyanthus (which have all since died), and some marigold and rudbeckia, all of which also came from plants I grew last year.
I hereby declare this year's gardening season open!

Tom seed sown
I sowed the tom seed today - 6 each of Gardener's Delight, Marmande and Moneymaker. I used seed from the packets I bought last year.
