James Grieve update

The James Grieve tree collapsed during the summer.  The new growth looks fine but the old branches are covered in something nasty.

I cut off what was the top of the tree, but was leaning to one side, leaving the new growth.  This new growth is sprouting from a part of the trunk which looks diseased and has bark missing, so the disease may eventually spread.

Apple tree in trouble

The James Grieve apple tree is suffering with something. I hope the apples will stll ripen ok. There was evidence of this problem last year, so I should have done something about it then. As far as I know, I'll have to wait until the winter then treat the tree with a spray (I think).

More James Grieve apples picked

I have been picking a few apples from the James Grieve tree for each of the last few days, and have so far frozen 3 batches of stewed apples.

First apples picked.

A couple of days ago I picked a few apples off the James Grieve tree. They're not ripe but a number are falling off. I suppose I could maybe cook and freeze them (assuming we don't get another power cut!). Hmm, will have to do a search to find out how one does that.
