Aucuba seed

I removed the seed from the aucuba berry - the seed was much larger than I expected; there was only a thin layer of flesh around it.

The seed looks a little 'unripe', I think I'll wait to see if it goes a darker colour before I sow it.

Lawn bed update

I think the normal cycle of the polyanthus has been upset by the mild autumn and start to the winter, which was then followed by a cold couple of weeks.  They look a bit tatty for this time of year.

Unknown update

Cyclamen update

All the cyclamen are in a similar state to this one.

Chrysanthemum update

Aucuba berry!

It's a very unseasonal 16C in the garden today, so I took advantage of the mild spell to have a look round.  I spotted this berry on the aucuba.  I think I may plant the seed.

Cold weather continues

Some of the snow which fell on Saturday night is still on the lawn, as the cold spell continues.  The cyclamens don't look very happy.

Snow

Up until about a week ago it looked like we would make it out of this winter without any snow.  However, last night we had a considerable fall of the white stuff, making this the third winter in a row with considerable snowfall.

One good thing is that I was able to follow the tracks of a fox to discover where he had entered, and have therefore attempted to block his access via that route.

Cold spell

We're in the middle of a cold spell, with snow being forecast in the next few days.

Snowdrops

Snowdrops seem to be coming up at the same time as they did last year, but the crocus may be a little early.
