Final batch of spuds for this year lifted

Lifted the spuds from the main bed. It's been a mild autumn so far - thought I'd better lift the potatoes before the ground gets hard.

Pansy update

Some of the pansies I grew from seed sown at the beginning of July.

Armeria update

Here are some of the armeria from the sowing I did in July.

Heuchera update

These are a couple of the plants which I propagated in July.

More green manure

I dug up the tomato plants today, and sowed some green manure in the old fig tree bed. I couldn't get any grazing rye green manure, so I used a mixture instead.

Wednesday 30 September 2015

Green manure sown

Now that the spuds have been lifted, I have sown green manure in the greenhouse bed.

More spuds harvested

I have now lifted all the potatoes from the greenhouse bed.

Spinach Beet update

I'm still harvesting the spinach beet.

Potatoes harvested

...This is what I have left of the Rocket spuds I harvested on 21 July.

Today I lifted a row of 5 Pentland Javelins plants from the greenhouse bed.  These were planted on the same date, 21 July.

Aubergine update

Of the 4 plants, 1 died as it got overgrown by the courgette, and 2 failed to fruit. The remaining plant produced one aubergine which I roasted today. Not bad, but I probably won't grow them again as they're not very productive.

Courgette update

Very disappointing year for courgettes. I only planted one plant this year (had to leave space for the aubergines), and I only got 2 courgettes!

Spud update

Spud batches 3 and 4 (Pentland Javelin, planted on 7 and 21 July) are certainly producing good foliage. I'm still eating my way through batches 1 and 2 (Rocket). We had a lot of rain in August and I think the above spuds liked it.

Tomato update

No blight this year - cropping is maybe a bit low.

Armeria and Pansy updates

A few days ago I potted up the pansy and armeria seedlings (sown on 03 July and 14 July respectively) - polyanthus seedlings also shown.

Back garden update

Euphorbia update

The pruned Euphorbia are looking ok (forgot to take photo) and I just noticed some shoots on a couple of the cuttings I took on 24 June...

...this variety seems to be shooting in a couple of cases, whereas...

...this one doesn't.

Heuchera cuttings potted on

I have potted on the heuchera cuttings which I took on 12th July.

Front garden update

The oxalis which I cut back on 1st July have grown back.

Saturday 8 August 2015

Tomato update

Aubergine update

Fruit is forming on one of the plants. I rested it on a tile to keep it off the ground.

Tuesday 4 August 2015

Oxalis Purpurea update

The plants outside are looking a bit rough, so I decided to cut one back to se if it regenerates like the green oxalis in the front garden are doing. Have moved it into the shade as well.

The indoor oxalis purpurea is doing ok - flowers have just about finished.

Pennisetum aftercare

Feed and water regularly until fully established. In autumn, apply a dry mulch such as bark or straw to protect the plant over winter. In spring, remove dead foliage and lift and divide clumps every third year to maintain their vigour.

Pentland update

These are the spuds I planted on 07 July.

Tuesday 21 July 2015

Spuds batch 4 planted

Today I lifted all the spuds from the main veg bed and planted 4 rows of 5 Pentland Javelin.

Aubergines flowering

The plants seem rather small.

Houttuynia Cordata divided

Two pots of Houttuynia Cordata started to look a bit iffy which I assumed was due to congestion, so I divided the plants and repotted a few pieces.
