Sowed some green manure in the beds taht previously contained spuds. Used mainly 'mixture' but also used up the remaining grazing rye seed from last year. Covered beds with netting.

Spuds (batch 2) lifted
Today I lifted all the Pentland Javelin spuds that I planted on 06 July. The Arran Pilot variety that I lifted in July seem to have produced bigger potatoes, but the smaller Pentlands may be due to the fact that we had a very dry August, although I did try to keep them watered.

Aubergine update
I think this self-sown plant is an aubergine which must have come from the plants I grew in this position last year.
Courgette update
The plant on the right is smaller because it got badly eaten by snails/slugs soon after it was planted out. Hopefully it's now recovering.

Preparing for summer bedding
The Sweet Williams had kept some interest going in the front garden (see previous post), but now it's time to get ready for the summer bedding. I cut the oxalis back (as I did last year) to allow easier access for weeding and to free up some space.

Spinach Beet update
The spinach beet that I sowed last year have now gone to seed, so I planted some more of the seedlings from the sowing I did on 21 April this year.
This is the current state of the seedlings I planted out on 05 May - not progressing very well but we had a long cold and wet period after putting them out.
Coleus sisyrinchium and sweet william update
I have been keeping some coleus, sisyrinchium and sweet william in the porch up until recently, but a couple of days ago I put them in the garden.

Wallflower, Marigold and Poppy sown
I sowed the poppies in a circle around the perimeter of the pot - the idea is I will sow some more, inside the outer circle, to prolong the flowering period.

Tomatoes and Courgettes planted out
These are the second batch of courgettes, sown on 21 April - the original courgettes that were planted out under the cloche died.
